Nadia Comaneci, (born November 12th of November, 1961 Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej, (presently Onesti] Romania) Romanian gymnast who was the first gymnast in history to get a flawless score of 10 points in an Olympic event. Bela Karrolyi was the Romanian gymnastics instructor, who was later Comaneci's coach who first came across Comaneci when she was just six years old. Comaneci was the first to compete for time at the national junior championships and finished 13th. Following that, she was crowned champion. Her first ever international competition in 1972, she won the event with three gold medals. In her first international competition as a senior in 1975 she beat the Russian Lyudmila Turishcheva who was a five-time European champion, winning four gold and one silver medal. In 1976, she took home the American Cup at the New York City Olympics and was the first female to ever dismount bars in parallel with a double backward salto.
